I wouldn’t say they’re words to live by…
I subscribe to A Word A Day a delightful feature provided by Wordsmith.org. The service provides one unique and often impracticable word each day with a definition and some historical as well as modern usage. Find out about todays word lacuna at http://wordsmith.org/words/today.html.
I’m actually not too concerned by todays word. My interest lies in the bonus feature quotation provided to email subscribers.
“Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence, it will fade away as we adopt reason and science as our guidelines.” -Bertrand Russell, philosopher, mathematician, author, Nobel laureate (1872-1970).
I love Bertrand Russell, the man was a forward thinking legend. I actually love the above quote. And five years ago I would have stuck it into Words to Live By in a second. But I’ve changed my thought process. I’m not supporting organized religion. I’m not denouncing it either. I’ve concluded it is far to complex a problem with too many goods and too many negatives for my brain to have a confirmed opinion on. What I like about the quote is that it challenges my thoughts and opinions. And it gives me that feeling of ‘I have absolutely no idea what to think’. I love that feeling.
